How to add an SEO description to a page in Squarespace
What you’ll need: An existing page on your Squarespace 7.1 site
How to add an SEO description:
Click pages on the top of your menu
Hover over the title of the page you want to add an SEO description to until you see the gear icon appear
Click on that gear icon to open your page settings menu
Select SEO, your second option
Under SEO description, add your description of 400 characters or less
Optional: Add an optimized SEO title above the description
Select save on the top left hand side
Important info: This is specific for pages, and is slightly different for blog posts, products, and projects. This is also not guaranteed to be the text displayed on a search engine as search engines use their own constantly changing algorithms to determine what content to display, but adding this to a page is still considered a best practice.
Pro Tip: 400 characters is the maximum in Squarespace, but the current best practice is to write a description with 300 characters or less that includes a keyword or phrase you want to rank well for. Do NOT throw a ton of keywords in here to spam search engines; keep this readable and related to the content of this page on your Squarespace site.
