How to use a summary block in Squarespace

Summary blocks are one of my favorite features in Squarespace. They are a great way to create internal links for your content like related posts, featured content on a page, or in my case, organize course content for easy navigation. In this training, you’ll learn about the different settings you’ll find for summary blocks, and how different types of collection pages can display different things.

To add a summary block, click on The blue plus sign to add a new content block and select summary.

Select the collection page you want to show content from, and update the design tab to change the style & what aspects of the collection are visible.

Pro Tip: Projects inside portfolios are the only kind of collection page you can’t use with a summary block.

Here is a quick recap of what you’ll find for each collection page type:

Blog Content: Title, Excerpt, Featured Image (thumbnail), Read More Link, Primary Meta Data, Secondary Meta Data

Event: Title, Featured Image (thumbnail), Excerpt, Even Timeframe (past vs upcoming) Primary Meta Data, Secondary Meta Data

Products: Title, Excerpt, Featured Image (thumbnail), Price, Quick View, Primary Meta Data, Secondary Meta Data

Video Collections: Title, Description, Featured Image (thumbnail), Primary Meta Data, Secondary Meta Data
